Thomas Middlebrooke of Carleton (1547-1612)

  • was the son of John Middlebrooke.
  • was baptised at Carleton on 15th February 1547.
  • was buried at Carleton on 13th October 1612, and his will was proved on 1st December 1612.
  • he married Jane, who was buried at Carleton on 24th August 1625, and her will was proved on 24th March 1625/6.
  • they had five children:
    1. Jane Middlebrook was baptised at Carleton on 18th November 1571. She married James Dawtry at Carleton on 23rd May 1590.
    2. James Middlebrooke (c1575-1630) was joint executor of his mother's will in 1625.
    3. John Middlebrooke was joint executor of his mother's will in 1625, and a witness to his brother's will in 1630. He married Elizabeth Constentine at Carleton on 2nd April 1624 and they had a son:
      1. Thomas Midlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 21st July 1625.
      John's wife Elizabeth was buried at Carleton on 29th July 1625 and he then married Anna Cowgill at Colne on 17th April 1626 and had a further seven children:
      1. Jane Midlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 21st April 1627, but buried there on 14th August 1627.
      2. Margaret Middlebrook was baptised at Carleton on 29th June 1628, but buried there on 21st September 1628.
      3. John Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 6th September 1629.
      4. William Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 19th September 1630.
      5. Elizabeth Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 27th January 1633.
      6. Lawrence Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 16th December 1635.
      7. James Midlebrook was baptised at Carleton on 16th December 1638.
      John's wife Ann was buried at Carleton on 29th July 1639.

  • was buried at Carleton on 20th December 1630, and his will was proved on 28th April 1632.
  • he married Elizabeth Ricroft at Carleton on 19th February 1599. She was buried at Carleton on 31st May 1649.
  • they had nine children:
    1. Margaret Middlbrook was baptised at Carleton on 27th January 1600. She was still alive (and single) in 1630, and was possibly buried at Carleton on 16th November 1640.
    2. Ellen Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 24th May 1602, but buried ther on 23rd February 1603.
    3. Jane Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 29th January 1604. She probably died before 1630, as she is not mentioned in her father's will.
    4. Thomas Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 12th January 1607. He married Maria Tillitson at Carleton on 24th November 1634 and they had four children:
      1. Anna Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 3rd January 1636.
      2. James Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 12th Febuary 1637, but buried there on 2nd May 1648.
      3. Margaret Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 6th April 1640, but buried there 14 days later.
      4. Elizabeth Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 6th April 1640, but buried there 10 days later.
    5. Agnes Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 8th January 1610. She probably married John Layland at Carleton on 30th January 1637.
    6. William Middlebrooke (1612-1672) was baptised at Carleton on 23rd September 1612.
    7. John Midelbrooke was baptised at Carleton on 6th November 1615.
    8. Grace Middlebrough was buried at Carleton on 3rd November 1617.
    9. Lawrence Midlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 27th March 1619, but was buried there on 11th February 1641.

    2. Thomas Middlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 27th February 1653.
    3. Elizabeth Midlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 4th January 1656.

  • was buried at Carleton on 19th November 1710, and administration of his estate was granted to his widow Isabell on 29th November 1710.
  • he married Isabell Cowgill at Carleton on 10th August 1674.
  • they had eight children:
    1. Margaret Middlebrough was baptised at Carleton on 31st October 1675, but buried there on 4th September 1698.
    2. William Midlebrough was baptised at Carleton on 13th January 1678, but buried there on 4th May 1700.
    3. Thomas Middlebrough was baptised at Carleton on 11th April 1680.
    4. James Midlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 28th April 1682.
    5. John Midlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 6th February 1685.
    6. Joseph Midlebrooke was baptised at Carleton on 25th May 1686, but buried there on 25th April 1690.

    2. Catherine Midlebrook was baptised at Carleton on 24th August 1719. She probably married John Seed at Bolton-by-Bowland on 26th September 1744.
    3. James Midlebrook was baptised at Kirkby Malham on 15th September 1721.
    4. George Midlebrook was baptised at Kirkby Malham on 30th March 1727. He was buried at Skipton on 22nd March 1791, aged 67.

    2. Mary Middlebrook was baptised at Kirkby Malham on 27th March 1747. She married Paul Harrison at Bentham on 18th August 1773.
    3. Isabel Midlebrook was baptised at Kendal, Westmorland on 26th March 1749. She married William West at Lancaster on 23rd February 1773.

  • was buried at Bentham on 2nd July 1832.
  • he married Ann Stuart at Melling, Lancashire on 27th February 1775.
  • they had nine children:
    1. Agnes Middlebrough was born at Farleton and baptised at Hornby, Lancashire on 27th October 1776.
    2. William Middlebrook was baptised at Tatham, Lancashire on 1st February 1778. He was described as 'infirm' in 1803 and was buried at Bentham on 25th June 1815.
    3. John Middlebrook was baptised at Tatham, Lancashire on 24th October 1779. He does not appear in the local Muster Roll of 1803.
    4. Isabel Middlebrook was baptised at Tatham, Lancashire on 6th May 1781. She married James Alston at Bentham on 30th May 1808. Isabel had an illegitimate daughter:
      1. Mary Anne Middlebrook was baptised at Bentham on 7th June 1807, but buried there on 26th April 1821.
    5. James Middlebrook (1783-1810) was baptised at Tatham, Lancashire on 30th March 1783.
    6. Ann Middlebrook was born near Perry Moor and baptised at Tatham, Lancashire on 9th October 1785.
    7. Sarah Middlebrook was baptised at Tatham, Lancashire on 18th March 1787. She married Richard Leak at Bentham on 18th November 1809.
    8. Joseph Middlebrook was baptised at Tatham, Lancashire on 10th August 1788. He was buried at Bentham on 17th September 1816.
    9. Robert Middlebrook was baptised at Caton, Lancashire on 29th May 1791. He married Mary Wildman at Bentham on 30th January 1815 and they had two children:
      1. James Middlebrooke was baptised at Bentham on 11th August 1816.
      2. Ann Middlebrooke was baptised at Bentham on 20th September 1818.
      Robert was buried at Bentham on 20th October 1825.

  • was buried at Bentham on 30th June 1810, aged 27.
  • he married Margaret Gornall at Bentham on 20th November 1802.
  • they had four children:
    1. Ann Middlebrook was baptised at Ingleton on 5th February 1803.
    2. James Middlebrook was baptised at Ingleton on 30th June 1805. He worked as an agricultural labourer and remained single. He died in 1868 [Settle district], aged 64.
    3. John Middlebrook (1807-1868) was baptised at Ingleton on 30th August 1807.
    4. Henry William Middlebrook was baptised at Ingleton on 29th July 1810.
    Following James' death, his widow Margaret re-married to Abraham Taylor, a stone mason, at Ingleton on 24th November 1811.

  • worked as a toll-barr keeper and a stone mason.
  • died in 1868 [Settle district], aged 62.
  • he married Elizabeth Heaton at Ingleton on 5th June 1830. She died in 1872, aged 75.
  • they had three children:
    1. Margaret Middlebroke was baptised at Ingleton on 17th October 1832. She was living in Preston, Lancashire in 1851.
    2. James Middlebroke was baptised at Ingleton on 10th August 1834, but was buried there on 27th May 1844.
    3. Thomas Middlebrook (1838-1905) was baptised at Ingleton on 30th September 1838.

  • he married Agnes Hebblethwaite Birkett in 1868 [Settle district]. She died in 1921 [Knaresborough district], aged 74.

    1. Elizabeth Ellen Middlebrook was born in 1872 [Settle district], but died in 1873, aged 0.
    2. John Thomas Middlebrook was born in 1874 [Settle district], but died in 1879, aged 4.

    4. Margaret Susannah Middlebrook was born at Ingleton in 1877. She married Jonas Hey [Settle district] in 1898.
    5. Hollies Middlebrook was born at Ingleton in 1879, but died in 1896 [Settle district], aged 16.
    6. Janet Middlebrook was born at Ingleton in 1882. She married George Brooks [Settle district] in 1907.
    7. James Middlebrook was born at Ingleton in 1884.
    8. Aurelia Middlebrook was born at Ingleton in 1886. She married Walter Whittaker [Skipton district] in 1911.
    9. Agnes Hebblethwaite Middlebrook was born at Ingleton in 1887.
